Food Substitutions That Can Backfire

We are constantly being shown all the ways we can indulge in our favorite guilty pleasures without any of the guilt. Low fat/no fat cookies, sugar free chocolate, chocolate donut flavored coffees.....the list goes on and on.

While saving calories can be good, substituting low fat junk food for real junk food, however, is not always the answer to healthy eating. In addition to the fact that a lot of these products are LOADED with artificial ingredients, consistently introducing these flavors to your body will lead to the craving of these flavors. If you always have a chocolate flavored coffee in the morning, you will find that without it, you REALLY NEED something sweet.  I am not saying we should avoid these things altogether, rather I just want people to recognize the potential setbacks of certain substitutions.

When you switch to real food that is truly healthy for you, you will find that there are plenty of whole food options that will satisfy a sweet craving. But, as I said, those sweet cravings will not be as numerous as when you were trying to trick your body.

And hey, if you are really craving a cookie, then make it a good one. Sit with it and enjoy it! After that, get back on track and have another one next week:)

Just a little something to think about.
