Pigment Free Politics

I'll keep this short folks. It seems that here in Fairfield, CT., we're approaching one of the more obscure(not to those running for election, of course) election cycles where leadership positions for Town Planning & Zoning & local Board of Education are filled. How do I know? The lawn signs are back(Cue sinister music). There are likely other positions being voted on, but that is not my point. My point is that I am sick and tired of BLUE & RED. The perpetual election cycles we are subjected to ensure that polarization and grid-lock, rather than discourse and progress, are the status quo. Platoons of red & blue signs pitched from people's lawns declaring their allegiance to this red guy or that blue girl, have completely derailed the imperative of voter education and the comparing & contrasting of ideas. And God forbid some one include a rainbow on their sign, or any multi-colored theme other than red, white & blue, lest they be pigeon holed as the "gay" candidate.

I know this horse has been beaten to death, decomposed and subsequently fertilized one of these candidate's lawns, but can we please talk about solving problems rather than waging the same old, tired ideological battles. I don't know a single one of these people whose names are plastered around town, but show me the candidate with ideas who knows how to spot BS when he sees it, and isn't afraid to call it out. That's who's got my vote. And besides, aren't neutral colors in now anyway?
