Poor Form.....
Well, this is just a side blog, but I had to tell people about our experience in NYC the other night...
My sister and her husband were generous enough to take us to the performance of "A Steady Rain" with the yummy Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig(who truly did an incredible job btw). And before the show, they took us to the swanky Daniel Boulud restaurant, DB Bistro Moderne.
First, let me say the food was quite delicious, and the wine was divine. Speaking of wine, however, here is where things got a little uncomfortable. My Brother-in-law is someone who does not spend money frivolously, but when it comes to wine, he will certainly spend up. He enjoys, and he wants his company to enjoy the good stuff. So, when he ordered a $125 bottle of wine, my mouth about hit the floor when I watched our server open it away from the table and proceed to pour himself a small glass before coming back to the table. He swirled it around, put his nose in it, and enjoyed a nice big sample of our wine. What??!!!!
I asked him if something was wrong with the wine, as that must be why he felt he needed to pour some out.
He responded(after turning a bright shade of red), that he was from the region of the wine, loved the wine, and that this was the last bottle. But, no apologies! He just acted as if he was perfectly in the right to sample our wine, and that this is how it's done.
Ok, so I waited tables and bartended for a number of years. If I EVER did anything like that, my boss would have my ass. That is completely unacceptable, and I just can't believe this occurred. So, I guess we should have alerted the manager right away right?. Well, partly, we were in shock, and partly, this was such a special night out, none of us wanted to create a scene. My sister did, however, write a letter the next day...
But anyway, how crazy is that????
